We asked 4 questions to the director of the competition Viktor Leis.
1️⃣ Why did you choose to make an online edition of the competition?
"We hadn't simply no other options. Either we cancel the festival completely or we do it "online". Because of the coronavirus, we have no way of getting together and holding the festival as it always was. This pandemic does not give us an opportunity to perform on stage, give concerts and organize events. Until mid-October we hoped that we would be able to hold the Euro Pop Contest live. The borders are open, but the situation wasn't better. Then we decided to do an online version with a show of the competition days and the gala concert on all our social networks. The dates of the show are already known - December 18th, 19th and 20th. It will be just before Christmas. I'm certainly not a supporter Online competitions but this is a necessary measure, I hope the pandemic will recede by the end of 2021 and we will be able to organize our festival in Berlin "live" as usual.
2️⃣ What changes have the participants to expect and how do you plan to hold the competition?
There are no particular changes, we try to make it as if the festival were going live in Berlin. We will have a starting place draw on November 20th, 2020, in which every participant will find out his or her starting number on the first and second day. On the first day of the broadcast we will show a video with a national hit or a song of our own. On the second day everyone will sing a world hit.
We will definitely have a gala concert with the stars again. Some stars have already confirmed their participation, for example "Brandon Stone". In the past few years he has repeatedly made us happy with his appearances at our gala concerts. Another special guest will be the honored artist of Russia "Alexey Glyzin". We will announce further names soon. We will also show our former participants who have become winners of the competition in recent years and are now real stars in Europe. Such a springboard gives the participants the opportunity to reach for the stars.
3️⃣ How do I apply?
- Any vocal group or performer between 10 and 24 years, performing in the genre of a popular song, can participate in the competition;
- Candidates must fill out an application for participation on the website of the competition www.europopcontest.de/application not later than 19.11.2020, upload two photos and send two videos of live performance with a link to a file (preferably youtube) of national hit or original song, and a world hit;
4️⃣ What advice can you give the participants and what should they pay attention to?
Each participant has to prepare and send us two videos with a live performance: a national hit or an original song and a world hit. Of course, I wish for the video recordings that you can hear the participant singing, that the sound is of more or less high quality and of course the jury and the audience can see the participant's face.
